About the Open Data Cook Book

We believe that open data should be accessible to everyone: data is not just for developers.

The Open Data Cook Book project is working to collect simple 'recipes' - sets of instructions for carrying out a project usingopen data - from governments, charities, companies or communities - to make an impact.

We need:

  • Recipe writers- have you got a good tried and tested way to use open data to make a difference? From adding statistics to a story, to mapping mash-ups and creating new tools: share your step-by-step recipes to let others learn from your experience.
  • Recipe testers- not sure how to get started with open data but want to learn? Try out a recipe and give us your feedback - tell us what worked and what didn't and share your case study stories of the difference it made.
  • Editors and supporters- there are lots of other tasks needed - from tidying up recipes and sourcing images - to outreach to get our open data recipes into the hands of those who need them.
